Alana has written poetry since she was 11 years old. Back then, and not until recently, it never crossed her mind to organize her writings into a collection, let alone publish them. All the poetry she read on her own or learned about in school never looked like or sounded like what she wrote. And honestly, she didn’t think anyone would be interested in reading what she wrote. You could say she didn’t consider her writings poetry.
In 2016, Alana discovered and read Rupi Kaur’s first poetry collection, Milk and Honey. She was captivated and inspired. Alana couldn’t read the book fast enough. More than anything what caught her deep interest was Rupi's style of writing, it wasn’t what you would consider a “traditional” form of poetry and there were MILLIONS of people interested in her nontraditional poetry.
In that moment, in 2016, the publishing seed was planted in Alana's head and in her heart. She realized there are people out there who want to read her poetry, because it is indeed poetry, and Alana knew in her heart she wanted to share her writing with the world. Four years later, she published her first poetry collection, Queen Poet Lioness.
Alana's goal is to create an enjoyable experience for her readers and, at the same time, she wants to inspire others; inspire them to believe in themselves, in their passion, and to unabashedly bring their dreams to life!
